Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Originally acquired by Joseph Ciavaglia while serving as the Banquet Manager at the Chateau Laurier, we have a program from the 9th Annual Sportsman’s Dinner and Award Night held on Jan 23rd 1962, signed by 22. A fold-over affair at roughly 6 ½” x 10” (folded), we have a number of athletes from varied sports including hockey, football and boxing, with signatures from hockey HOFers Jacques Plante, Sylvio Mantha, Bill Durnan, Newsy Lalonde and Sam Pollock, along with notable boxer Archie Moore and CFL HOFer Kenny Ploen. All signatures have been scripted along the inside back cover in ballpoint, with all examples well executed. The Plante is a stand-alone specimen that could easily be removed if so desired by the winning bidder.
Other signers include Tony Golab, Bernie Faloney, Frank Tindall, Birdie Tebbets, Frank Clair, Jack Yrie, George Terlap, Gord Trivett, Terry Kielty, Bob Bedard, Earl Bullis, Connie-Gail Feller, Stephanie Laird, Bud Clarka and Frank Gorman. The Associated Canadian Travellers program itself remains in excellent condition. In the possession of Lynn Ciavaglia for the past 50 years, she best describes the origins of the five offered programs (offered within three lots in this auction), “These menus have been in my sole possession since the years 1960 through 1965. My father Joseph Ciavaglia was the Banquet Manager at the Chateau Laurier during this period and as such had complete access to the head tables. He thus was able to collect the autographs before people began to disperse. He would bring them home and give them to me where I have kept them for over fifty years”.
