Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Referred to as the greatest goaltender in NHL history by Wayne Gretzky himself, high praise indeed, we have a blocker and glove combo once employed by superstar netminder Grant Fuhr while with the Edmonton Oilers in the late-1980s, and they’ve been photo-matched. An 11” x 14” signed photo of Fuhr used for the items photo-matches will also accompany. From makers D&R out of Montreal and solid white with accents in Oilers blue and orange, both the blocker and glove feature screened-on identifiers, with “Fuhr” over the wrist section of each. Heavy use is exhibited on the pair, with an endless number of dark marks littering the complete pocket section of the trapper, along with large additional examples over the face of the blocker. Some cracking to the leather on both items has also occurred, with light staining to each along with spots of paint transfer.
The set has been photo-matched to a pair of included numeric images along with an accompanying 11” x 14” colour photo. One of the numeric images has been matched to the blacked out section over the wrist guard of the trapper, with the lower part of the "g" of "Daigneault" visible, along with the larger dark mark directly beneath it. The 11” x 14” photo has also been matched to the exact placement of the blacked out “D&R” sections on both the trapper and glove, with the round section of the logo on the far right noticeable. We should note that the accompanying 11” x 14” photo shows wear with a few creases, with a sticker from PSA/DNA numbered “Z57178” affixed.
