Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Originally released in the spring of 1957 on a double bill with The Girl in the Kremlin, The Deadly Mantis was another in the line of 1950s sci-fi insect films, along with Them and Tarantula! Directed by Nathan Juran, a giant mantis is awoken from its arctic slumber with an appetite for both national monuments and tasty people. Remembered for its wonderful poster imagery that screamed the atomic age and the 1950s, we have a typically-sized one sheet poster from the film. Our antagonist is featured wreaking havoc amid the Washington Monument as helpless soldiers and civilians look on.
Thrice folded, the poster exhibits prominent fold lines, with a single vertical fold line along with three horizontal examples. Only minor wear is present along the fold lines, with a few random wrinkles and small creases. Toning is fairly heavy along fold lines on the reverse, with a few handwritten notations also present.
Directed by Nathan Juran from a screenplay by Martin Berkeley, it starred Craig Stevens, William Hopper, Alix Talton, and Pat Conway.
