Aided by both time travel and ingenious marketing, Robby the Robot would make his second appearance in MGM’s 1957 release The Invisible Boy, having previously been the standout in Forbidden Planet, released the year prior. The film centers around the exploits of 10-year old Timmie Merinoe and his remarkable engineering skills, bringing to life a robot (Robby) other scientists had previously discarded, with both comical and sinister results. Highly desirable due to the inclusion of Robby the Robot, we have a typically-sized one sheet poster from the film. Robby is pictured receiving a barrage of gun fire from military personnel, with the ominous tag line, “The science-monster who would destroy the world!”
Thrice folded, the poster exhibits prominent fold lines, with a single vertical fold line along with three horizontal examples. The colours remain rich and vibrant, with heavy wear along fold lines including some separation in spots along with small holes at intersections and pinholes at each corner. Edge tears are also present at both the top and bottom of the single vertical fold line, with clear tape on the reverse reinforcing the top fold line. Despite these obvious flaws, the poster displays much better than its lower technical grade.
Starring Richard Eyer, Philip Abbott, Diane Brewster, Robby the Robot, Harold J. Stone, Robert H. Harris, Dennis McCarthy, Alexander Lockwood, John O'Malley, Marvin Miller, and Gage Clarke. Artwork by Reynold Brown.
