With an estimated budget of just 6 million, John Carpenter’s 1981 sci-fi action thriller Escape from New York received both critical and commercial success, grossing a then-impressive $25,244,700 at the box office (roughly $69,188,906.92 in 2016 dollars). The film follows Snake Plissken’s (Kurt Russell) 24 hour search for the US president amid the futuristic backdrop of 1997 New York, where Manhattan has been converted to a maximum security prison. We have a typically-sized one sheet poster from the film, and it’s been signed by writer/director John Carpenter. Featuring a post-apocalyptic scene set amid the skyline of Manhattan complete with fleeing citizens and a toppled Statue of Liberty, the poster has been folded over thrice, exhibiting prominent fold lines, with a single vertical fold line along with three horizontal examples. The colours remain vibrant with some very light toning occurring, with just light wear along each fold line. Reverse-folded, minor surface indentations are present, along with some light edge wear with all four corners remaining fairly sharp. Carpenter has signed along the lower right in silver paint pen just above the listed credits, and the signature displays well.
Starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, and Adrienne Barbeau. Directed by John Carpenter.
