Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Hall of Fame rookie-era lumber is hard to locate and highly sought after, with examples harnessed by iconic superstar Wayne Gretzky at the very top of the list for desired specimens. We have such an example here, with a scarce first NHL season stick wielded by legendary HOFer Wayne Gretzky. A Titan TPM model in solid white with red accents, “W. Gretzky” is stamped-on, with “99” handwritten immediately above, repeated on the lower shaft. Featuring custom-shaved edges along with an intact first and early-second season-style tape job, a date stamp of “Mar 12 1980” is also present along the underside of the shaft. Heavy use is exhibited, with considerable wear to the blade and lower shaft, with a number of signatures present along the front side that have faded heavily. ANY items associated with Gretzky’s inaugural NHL season are considered blue chip, and rightfully so, with spirited bidding expected on this desirable example.
