Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

This striking Russian nesting doll is a colourful piece of memorabilia from the legendary 1972 Summit Series. Originally part of the Alan Eagleson collection, the 11" tall wooden doll is one of the various sizes gifted to Team Canada players by their Soviet Union national team opponents prior to Game 4 of the series. The September 8, 1972 game in Vancouver resulted in a 5-3 win for the Soviets, which drew boos for Team Canada from the Pacific Coliseum crowd, prompting Phil Esposito to deliver a passionate and unforgettable post-game speech when he was interviewed on national TV. A very desirable piece for any Summit Series display, this remarkably light and thin wooden two-piece affair with vibrant colors exhibits just a couple of vertical cracks along the reverse.
