Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Ranked No. 64 on the all-time list of New York Rangers in the book 100 Ranger Greats, goaltender John Ross Roach was born in Port Perry at the turn of the century, coming up through the OHA with Toronto clubs. Ross would tend the nets for a number of NHL teams over 14 seasons including the Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Rangers, winning a Stanley Cup with the St. Patricks in 1922. We have an original media photo of the noteworthy netminder for your consideration, hailing from circa-1925. At 4 ½” x 8”, the glossy sepia-toned image features Ross in full equipment, presumably outside of the Arena Gardens on Mutual. The reverse features a newswire stamp, along with both “Ross Roach” and “Chabot” handwritten. A few minor creases are present, along with surface, corner and edge wear, with the photo slightly “warped”. An LOA will accompany.
