Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Obscure, infrequently-seen group of pictures recalls how Jean Beliveau and his Quebec Citadel junior teammates were so popular, wowing capacity crowds at the “Colisee” every night, that management and fans held a special night for them towards the end of the 1950-51 season, showering them with gifts, with Beliveau presented a brand new Nash car! On paper stock and measuring 6” by a little over 9”, the lineup is of course led by Beliveau, with future NHL rookie-of-the-year Camille Henry, goaltender Marcel Paille, longtime AHL star Bruce Cline and player-turned-journalist Claude Larochelle among the most notable. Others are Neil Amadio, Norman Diviny, Bernard Guay, Gordie Hudson, Bernie Lamonde, Copper Leyte, Ray Makita, Jean-Marie Plante and coach(?) Peter Martin. Other than the latter, all have survived with no unsightly major creases or other nasty flaws, with light bends, (similar to those often observed in Quaker Oats premium photos of the ‘40s and ‘50s) and light corner wear the flaws spotted and rendering the lot in the VG, VG+, VG-EX range, with Beliveau at VG. A fantastic pre-NHL collectible of all-time great Jean Beliveau!
