Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
More interesting stories accompany more intriguing "anonymous" hockey cards from the 1920s here, with these two examples featuring the images of players who helped the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup championship, the club's last, the same (1926-27) season as the cards were reportedly issued! Hec Kilrea, a fine baseball and football player whose blazing speed on skates propelled him to a 15-year NHL career and two more Cups with the Red Wings, along with Edwin Gorman, a d-man, are pictured rather crudely to say the least, but were among those who joined legends Denneny, Clancy, Nighbor, Boucher, Hooley Smith and goalie Alex Connell as the last Senators to experience Stanley Cup glory. The Kilrea card displays minor back damage and has been graded Fair 1.5 by SGC, while the Gorman example merited attractive EX 5 recognition. Superb pre-war collectibles await their new appreciative home.
It is the spacing between the first three lines in the text on the back of the cards that differentiate them from the previous (1925-26) year's "anonymous" card issue, the latter not having any spacing between the lines.
