Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Three men who skated for the Boston Bruins in the club's first (1924-25) season are featured here, on cards that were reportedly issued during the 1926-27 campaign by an anonymous company. It was the firm's second year of cards, distinguished by spacing between the first three lines on the reverse, (the '25-26 cards do not have the spacing), the rest of which includes an offer for a team photo in exchange for a complete team set of cards. The example of longtime Boston defence stalwart Lionel Hitchman, who joined the original Bruins mid-season from Ottawa, exhibits trimming and has been slabbed "Auth" by the SGC grading company, while those of Carson Cooper and Jimmy Herberts are labelled Good 2. Herberts led the Bruins in scoring their first year, while Cooper was second. Early Bruins sweaters strike the beholder of these scarce, scarce cards while one speculates with what product they may have originally been included.
