Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Intriguing and scarce issue here features an image of Bert Corbeau of the Toronto St. Patricks, the same fellow famous for being pictured on a short-printed William Paterson V145-1 card which can command tens of thousands of dollars when it surfaces. Dated "1924-28" on the PSA label, card #64 here is also oh so scarce and can actually be dated to 1926-27. It's from the second "anonymous" issue, (the first appeared in 1925-26) and is the variation with "Le club" starting off the French text on the back, (as opposed to another that begins "Le Club"). The "Vintage Hockey Collector" price guide reports that 60 players are known to exist in the '26-27 set. The PSA Population Report shows that just three Corbeau anonymous cards have ever been slabbed by the company and it lists them as being the "Le Club" variation, raising questions. Labelled "Authentic", this rarity exhibits trimming but displays as an appealing crease-free example, destined for an important pre-war portfolio.
