Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Some 65-years ago is when the modern era of hockey card collecting began, with fans of gum and hockey discovering five 1951-52 Parkhurst cards in little cardboard boxes like the one offered here. This purple example, featuring Maple Leafs' captain Ted Kennedy on the front, surfaces less frequently than the more common green version. It may have indeed originally held a Howe or Richard or other star rookie card and has been preserved in appealing condition, with corner/edge to mention, along with "Boston" written in ink on the reverse. A definite prerequisite to an important hockey card wrapper collection and wonderful complement to the Parkhurst company’s landmark inaugural issue, it is joined by eight lower grade '55-56 Parkies. Tom Johnson (#49) is VG, with 27-Schriner and 40-Curry at G and P-F examples of #s 2-Smith, 10-Sloan, 41-MacKay, 72-Rocket Roars Through and 77-Jammed On The Boards.
