Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
From a glorious season for hockey card collecting, 1933-34, comes this always-popular issue, found in packs of gum and with a letter at the bottom designed to be cut off to help spell the names of hockey teams and sent to the issuer in exchange for a “Home Hockey Game.” The set’s key card, picturing hockey immortal Howie Morenz, is graded FR 1.5 by PSA, while an Ott Heller example received a mark of VG+ 3.5. We see a Joliat card, along with those of Aurie, Cox, Duguid and Ward similar to Morenz, with creases and soiling and Fair. We rate the rest as Poor due to multiple light creases, although almost all backs are problem-free. The Hall of Fame lineup includes still-acceptable examples of Bailey, Lionel Conacher, Connell, Bun Cook, Day and Hainsworth, with the rest listed on our website. More C-O-O-L pre-war collectibles!
Also present are cards of Bostrom, Brydge, Dillon, Emms, Finnigan, Gottselig, Lepine, Northcott, Roach, Sheppard, Alex Smith, Sorrell, Touhey and Wasnie. We do not spot any major flaws such as writing, tears, pin holes or paper loss. There’s a bit of paper affixed to the lower back of the Dillon card, where staining is also visible.
