More downright riveting images are offered in this fascinating collection of “V145-2” cards issued by the William Paterson firm, with pre-war legends and first-year Bruins and Maroons among them. Recently back from PSA headquarters are 21 examples, with #34-Dunc Munro and 49-Spague Cleghorn the highest at VG-EX+ 4.5. Sammy Rothschild’s #37 card is joined by four others slabbed VG-EX 4; 23-Headley, 25-Herberts, 30-Fowler and 40-Dinsmore, with 39-Broadbent and 45-Odie Cleghorn at VG+ 3.5, the same as 35-Cain and 42-Carroll. Seven cards, including 48-Joliat and 58-Corbeau, are housed in holders labeled VG 3, the others being #s 8, 12, 17, 29 and 51-Noble. The graded group is completed by 28-Redding (Good 2) and two HOFers at FR 1.5; 14-Green and 32-Benedict. The haunting images of Howie Morenz and Georges Vezina lead the (raw) rest, with only peripheral creases (bottom corner regions) and a chipped edge noticeable on the (Good) Morenz, with the Vezina Poor due to multiple creases. Mostly P and F for the remainder, with stenciling on the backs of four and more details on our website.
The aforementioned cards with gold letters stenciled on the reverse are all Senators; 2-Boucher, 6-Nighbor, 9-Finnigan and 10-Connell, with creasing and, at times, specs of paper loss affecting others. Curiously, the last card, 60-Jackson, is the lone example that has “CANCELLED” stamped on the reverse. Cards not present are 3-Clancy, 7-Denneny, 13-Burch, 16-McKinnon, 24-Cook, 41-Berlinquette, 50-Mantha, 54-Dye, 56-Holway and 59-Andrews.
