Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
The evening of Feb 16th 1985 was a special night in the city of Montreal, with the famous Canadiens retiring the jersey of one of their most beloved sons and all-time leading scorer, Guy Lafleur. Handed directly to the brother of our consignor (who was confined to a wheelchair) as Guy left the ice after the touching ceremony, the stick is available here for your collecting interests, and it was later signed by the legendary HOFer. A preferred Sher-Wood PMP 5030 model, “Lafleur” and “10” appear on the upper shaft, with the stick retaining its black tape on the blade and white on the handle. Lafleur has signed on the lower shaft in thick marker adding his number, and the signature is flawless. With game-wear exhibited on the taped section of blade, there is also some wear to the shaft.
On February 16, 1985, Guy Lafleur took his rightful place among Canadiens legends when his No. 10 was retired. Just as they had throughout “The Flower’s” career, fans at the Forum chanted “Guy! Guy! Guy!” for several minutes in honor of the man who had climbed his way to the top of the Habs’ all-time scoring list.
