Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
A fascinating find is this intact 46-year old(!) cereal box that sheds light on the smile-provoking caricatures of hockey stars that were offered on iron-on transfers (and other products) back in the day. The back shows the groovy artwork of Bob Pelkowski, while the offer reveals that consumers could send in three order forms, (to be cut from the box, hence the scarcity of a complete box), in return for their choice of three 7” by 9-3/4” iron-ons; either Set A (Bobby Hull, Frank Mahovlich, Rod Gildert) or Set B (Stan Mikita, Ron Ellis, Phil Esposito). A side panel reveals that a Penman’s tee-shirt, “with the hockey iron-on of your choice” could be had for $1, with another order form to be cut-out. Filled with Styrofoam and not cereal and sealed with shrink-wrap, the box is severely faded on the front and creased on the sides, but it’ll be the awesome back that you’ll be displaying/enjoying!
