Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Captained by Hap Day and led by the scoring prowess of Charlie Conacher, the 1931-32 Toronto Maple Leafs would see a second-place finish in the Canadian Division, with the club slipping past Chicago and the Maroons before blanking the Rangers three-straight for their first Stanley Cup championship as the Maple Leafs, and third in their franchise history. The Turofsky boys and their Alexandra Studio are responsible for this crystal clear image that has been team-signed by the 1931-32 Maple Leafs. At 10 ½” x 13", the full team is pictured on ice, with vertical fountain pen signatures below, with each signature numbered to correspond with each numbered individual. Included are deceased HOFers Smythe, Irvin, Selke, Day, Clancy, Conacher, Jackson, Primeau, Horner and Ace Bailey, followed by Frank Finnigan, Hal Darragh, Andy Blair, Alex Levinsky, Bob Gracie, Harold Cotton, goaltender Lorne Chabot and trainer Tim Daly. Some signatures appear lighter, most likely due to the choice of ink, with the Clancy example appearing the lightest. Double-matted and framed to total dimensions of roughly 15 ¾” x 18 ¾”, the signed display remains in stunning condition. Important team-signed NHL items from the 1930s are difficult to locate, with an example from the vaunted Toronto Maple Leafs first Stanley Cup championship atop that minuscule supply.
We should note that the photo line-up has been handwritten along the reverse, with “31/32”. There are also a few tears to the back paper.
