Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
First witnessing hockey action as a referee in the NHA, Leo Dandurand was involved with the founding of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association in 1914 before he and his partners - Joseph Cattarinich and Hilarion Louis Létourneau, purchased the Montreal Canadiens in 1921. We have a typed letter on Montreal Canadiens letterhead that’s been signed by the deceased HOFer. At 8 ½” x 11” and dated Aug 31st 1929, the single sheet features “Le Club de Hockey Canadien Inc.” across the top, along with a full-colour Habs logo along the upper left. With the text entirely executed in French, Dandurand has added a gorgeous and flowing fountain pen signature beneath, and it remains dark and flawless.
With expected fold lines along with a small set of holes along the upper left from staple removal, the letterhead remains in beautiful condition, with light toning present. Born in Bourbonnais, Illinois in 1889 and moving to Canada as a 16 year old, Leo Dandurand would pass in the summer of 1964 shortly before his 75th birthday.
