First awarded to Frank Nighbor in 1925, the Lady Byng Trophy is awarded annually to the "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability". We have a Lady Byng commemorative dish that was presented to 1945-46 winner, HOFer Toe Blake. At roughly 11 ½” x 8 ½” x 6”, the attractive keepsake features an engraved “S” on the front of the lid, with a decorated rim and intricate handle. The underside features engraved text that divulges it’s importance with “Souvenir of The Viscount Byng of Vimy Challenge Cup Presented to the National Hockey League 1935 To encourage clean sportsmanship – won by Hector “Toe” Blake Club de Hockey Canadien Inc. Season 1945-1946”.
Tarnishing is present is a number of spots along with some loss to the finish. The handle is loose and swivels, with no dents to the tray whatsoever.
