Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Arguably the greatest team to ever lace up the skates, the Montreal Canadiens late-1950s dynasty is unrivaled, with no other club ever securing 5 consecutive Stanley Cup victories. We have a group of 7 black and white 1950s Montreal Canadiens postcards, with each 3 ½” x 5 ½” example signed, and each player featured an integral component to the club’s unmatched success throughout the era. Included are examples from HOFers Jacques Plante, Henri Richard and Tom Johnson, along with Don Marshall, Jean Guy Talbot, Dollard St. Laurent and Claude Provost. Each has been signed in ballpoint, with no fading or loss to any of the signatures.
Each blank-backed postcard includes a handwritten notation on the reverse, with each card varying regarding condition. Toning and corner wear is present on each, with the Plante (along with a few others) exhibiting surface creases, while the St. Laurent postcard has been mailed, with a postmark date of Jan 21st 1955. While not overly hard to locate, Habs signed postcards are rarely offered in any kind of quantity, with this group highlighted by a desirable Jacques Plante example.
