Cincinnati will always enjoy a historically important role in the history of the American national pastime, fielding the first openly professional squad in 1869. The Reds were charter members of the American Association in 1882, joining the National League in 1890. The club has won 5 World Series championships, with the most recent occurring in 1990. We have a great group of game-worn Reds items totaling 15, spanning from roughly 1939 to 2004. Included, we have a pair of batting helmets, with an example worn by D’Angelo Jimenez in 2003 along with a helmet worn by Reggie Sanders, this is followed by a warm-up jacket worn by Eric Davis in 1986, along with four pairs of uniform stirrups including a pair from the 1940s along with examples worn by Lee Grissom in 1939. Rounding out the lot, we have 8 pairs of uniform pants, with examples worn by Ed Blake in 1953, Don Gullet in 1975, Dave Concepcion in 1988 (recycled), Stan Williams in 1990, Reggie Sanders in 1993 and Mariano Duncan.
1&2) Reggie Sanders and D’Angelo Jimenez game-worn batting helmets. The Sanders helmet is red, the Jimenez navy, with both featuring Reds decals across the front along with “Sanders” on the reverse of his helmet, and “3” on the Jimenez. The Sanders has detached padding along with loose Styrofoam, while the Jimenez example has been signed on the side adding “2003”. Both show good use, with marks and scratches present. 3) Ed Blake’s 1953 Cincinnati Reds game-worn pants. Beige flannel, “Blake” appears chain-stitched along the waistband, with a sizing label from MacGregor along with a “Set 2 1953” tag. With just some very light staining along the very bottoms, the pants remain in beautiful condition. 4) Eric Davis’ 1986 Cincinnati Reds warm up jacket. In solid red, a Starter label sits on the collar including handwritten “44”, with “Cincinnati” arching across the chest. Light wear is present including a small stain on the middle front. 5-8) 4 pairs of uniform stirrups. We have a modern pair in solid red, with a wool pair from the 1980s with “28” handwritten. There is also a wool pair with navy tops and red bottoms from the 1940s, along with the pair worn by Lee Grissom in 1939 that feature the same colour pattern as the examples from the 1940s, with “32” chain-stitched to each. 9-15) 7 pairs of uniform pants. Each example has proper tagging along the waistband present, with good use showing, with either stains or team repairs, with a couple examples exhibiting both. Three of the pairs have also been recycled. LOAs will accompany for the Jimenez helmet and a pair of 1980s stirrups, along with a COA for the Don Gullet pants.
