Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Featuring those famous Redbirds from Missouri, we have a great collection of game-worn St Louis Cardinals memorabilia totaling 11 items, spanning from roughly 1959 to 2002. Included we have batting helmets used by Delino DeShields, Ron Grant and Edgar Renteria, followed by 4 pairs of uniform pants with examples worn by Mike Phillips in 1979, Ozzie Smith and Gary Templeton in 1982 and Edgar Renteria in 2000, along with a pair hailing from 1959 worn by pitching coach Howie Pollet. Next, we have jackets worn by Tino Martinez and Rick Ankiel both in 2002, along with cleats worn by Luis Alicea in 1988 and a pair of stirrups from the 1960s. LOAs will accompany the Renteria and 1959 pairs of pants.
All three batting helmets were produced by ABC, with each featuring intact padding along with Cards decals over the front, with the player’s number on both the brim and reverse (the Renteria helmet only has a “3” on the brim). Heavy use is shown on each, with numerous marks, abrasions and scratches. The pants each feature tagging from Rawlings with proper labeling intact, with the Templeton, Phillips and Pollet examples with their names chain-stitched along the waistband, with the Smith pants autographed. Heavy staining is present to the lower legs on the Pollet pants, with repairs to the Smith/Templeton example along with a large hole to the back of the left leg on the Renteria pants. The Alicea cleats are Nike models in red and white with heavy use exhibited, including holes to the left shoe, while the red stirrups with white striping bands remain in excellent condition. Lastly, both jackets were made by Majestic, with the lighter one attributed to Tino Martinez, with “21” handwritten along the collar label, while the heavier example with a full Cards logo across the chest in tackle twill has “66” handwritten. Both jackets remain in beautiful condition, with some light staining to the Martinez example.
