Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

The Expos made a bold move in 1981 by trading five-tool all-star Ellis Valentine to the New York Mets to acquire promising reliever Jeff Reardon, who went on to become one of baseball’s most successful closers. Reardon’s 1981 Expos game-worn road jersey displays the No. 31 he wore before switching to the No. 41 he wore over the next five seasons with Montreal, where he led the National League with 41 saves in 1985 and recorded 152 of his 367 career saves. Recycled by an Expos farm team, this gamer from Montreal’s only NL East title season has evidence of a former “Expos” nameplate that was removed to reveal the sewn-on red twill “Reardon” surname letters that are original to this jersey.
The Rawlings tagging sewn inside the right front tail is extremely worn, particularly on the right side, which is mostly a series a loose red threads. No. “31” is handwritten and underlined in the back of the collar in lightly faded black marker.
