Centering John Tonelli and Bob Nystrom on the famous “Banana Line” during the Islanders early-1980s dynasty, Wayne Merrick is also noteworthy for scoring the Cup-clinching goal in Game Five of the 1981 Finals. This Islanders jersey was worn by the Sarnia native circa 1982-83. Faded Sandow tagging remains along the collar, with a second “Sandow SK” crest embroidered onto the back bottom hem. Styled with the iconic Long Island team crest in tri-colour tackle twill, the white mesh V-neck has also been accented with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers, with “Merrick” across the nameplate in matching material. An LOA will accompany.
Thorough use is exhibited on the jersey, with wear to the identifiers along with some random marks. There is also faint paint transfer over the back of the left shoulder along with some light staining on the right end of the nameplate, with 9 team repairs present. There are 3 on the front, 1 on the reverse, 2 over the left sleeve and 3 over the right sleeve and shoulder.
