Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

The original Ottawa Senators won the city's last Stanley Cup in 1927. The Senators were the most successful NHL team in the early days of the league with four Cups from 1920 to 1927, including three in four years. The Great Depression forced the team to move to St. Louis in 1933 before folding one year later. Presented, we have a photo of the 1926-27 Stanley Cup champion Ottawa Senators. At 12 ½” x 16 ½”, the detailed composite photo features the full team including HOFer’s Denneny, Connell, Clancy, Nighbor, Smith and captain George Boucher, along with the Prince of Wales Trophy, the O’Brien Trophy and the Stanley Cup. These extremely rare photos were originally produced for both players and executives, with this example previously affixed to a mount. The photographer Hands Studio is listed along the lower right, with glue residue on the reverse.
Some light staining has occurred within the top left and right sections, with the bottom left corner clipped. A few abrasions to the surface are also present, notable over the images of King Clancy and Frank Finnigan.
