Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Still regarded as the toughest defencemen the NHL has ever seen, Eddie Shore was a Hart Trophy recipient four times, still the most for any defenceman in history. Hailing from the collection of the iconic superstar, we have an extremely rare cabinet photo of the Cupar Hockey Club (first known as the Cubs, and later the Canucks) from 1919-20, featuring a teenage Eddie Shore. A 7” x 9” (exposed) photo pictures the team, with Shore 2nd from the left, in the second-last row. The photo has been matted to full dimensions of 11 ¼” x 13 ¼”, with the individuals all listed along the original mount. The photographer’s monogram also appears along the bottom right, with “Rossie” along with “Regina Sask”. Scarce to say the least, this is the first example of this particular image we’ve ever seen or handled. An LOA from the Shore family will accompany.
The photo itself survives in beautiful condition with just some very light and barely noticeable spotting, while the matte has become loose along the bottom section, and could be reglued by the winning bidder is so desired. This concern could also be easily rectified through framing as well.
