Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Howie Morenz, who was renowned as the Babe Ruth of hockey, died all too young at the age of 34 on March 8, 1937. This Howie Morenz Memorial program is from the charity game staged that fall to benefit the fallen star’s family, when a team of NHL All-Stars and a combination of Canadiens and Maroons faced off at the Montreal Forum on November 2. The 56-page program is full of tributes and completely intact. The centerfold features the contest’s lineups that boast legends such as Shore, Horner, Conacher, Jackson, Day and Shriner, pitted against the likes of Joliat, Lepine, Blake, Beveridge, Ward, Gagnon and Siebert, among others. A must-have program!
The program suffers from a few minor issues, with the cover slightly torn at the very bottom of the spine, along with moderate creasing and surface wear to the back cover. Some toning to the interior has also taken place, with additional wear to a few page corners. The NHL All-Stars defeated the combined Montreal squad 6-5. Young Howie Morenz Jr., who is pictured on the back cover with his famous father, skated in the pre-game warmup and took shots on both goalies.
