Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
An intriguing combination of both Hollywood horror and hockey, we have a goal mask worn by the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Mike Smith on October 18th, 21st, 25th and 28th of 2008, with impressive graphics promoting the hugely popular gore fest Saw V, with the mask photo-matched. An Itech model with all padding and strapping intact, images from the movie are present including the film’s protagonist Jigsaw, with a detailed jaw in chains along the chin section. The back headpiece has “Smitty” along the bottom, with the forehead cloth removed. The mask’s talented artist David Arrigo has signed on each side, with his website also listed. Smith has signed along the top portion in black marker, with the signature displaying especially well against the lighter background. A COA from Twisted Pictures will accompany.
Game-wear on the attractive head gear includes a couple small chips and marks, including along the top and on the back edge, with a few additional scratches present. There is also residue encompassing the bottom left screw that affixes the mark, with a good and thorough cleaning needed. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #83471257 from Oct 28th 2008 has been matched to a number of black marks on the left side of the mask. The association with Saw V stems from Lightning co-owner Oren Koules, with Koules’ company Evolution Entertainment producing the film.
