Jacques Plante spent the bulk of his highly successful Hall of Fame career backstopping the mighty Montreal Canadiens, including a five year period in the late-1950s where the club completely dominated the competition, winning five consecutive Stanley Cups. This stick hails from the 1955-56 season, where Plante was on top of the goaltending world winning his first of 7 Vezina Trophies. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, “Custom Made for Plante” appears stamped-on, with an additional stamp from team supplier Raymond Hardware Ltd. Important handwritten text on the upper shaft pinpoints it’s use, with "championnat Canadiens Detroit 25 fevrier 1956 5-1", which equates to the stick being used in a Feb 25th contest against Detroit. Montreal won the match 5-1.
The highly desirable lumber shows great use, with original tape remaining on the knob and in a pair of spots along the upper and lower paddle. The blade exhibits some chipping along the underside, with a small chunk missing along the heel section. Additional cracks are present at the tip of the blade and along the top side of the paddle, and despite these imperfections, the stick remains very solid.
