Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Classic collectibles here were the Canada Starch company's response to the St. Lawrence Starch firm's popular "Bee Hive" premium hockey picture promotion and were available in the mid-to-late 1930s. Montreal Maroons (11) and Canadiens (9) players dominate the lineup here, with almost all having condition issues, particularly when it comes to the beige backings. Re-glued photos, glue/paper residue/remnants on a strip across the upper backs of some, the odd pin hole, creased backings, photos glued onto Bee Hive-like/size mats (7) and intermittent glue stains are among the grade-lowering flaws. Popular team photos are present and include the 1936-37 Maroons (tattered/torn backing), as well as two picturing the '37-38 Maroons (one with most of the backing gone but including the lower part identifying players and the other with the players' names added in ink). Canadiens team shots are from '36-37 (featuring Morenz but without a backing, save for the section naming the players), '37-38 (scotch tape along the four edges of the backing), '38-39 (2)(one with the mat trimmed at the sides but with the photo retaining nice eye-appeal, the other without the mat and in poor condition) and '39-40 (trimmed mat which however still has the part identifying the personnel). Individual player photos are numbered and include the likes of Maroons Northcott, Trottier, Blinco, Robinson (2), Gracie, Marker (2), Evans and Voss, while Canadiens are Gagnon, Cude, Haynes (3)(one with no backing), MacKenzie, Buswell, Drouin, Trudel and Robinson. Non-Montrealers are 62-Barry, 63-Kelly (2), 69-Burke (2) and 70-Levinsky, with an Ace Bailey picture trimmed and lacking its backing.
