This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
A highly collected field of Americana, signatures from past astronauts and space heroes are extremely desirable, with the men behind NASA today’s modern explorers. We have six signed displays that are “out of this world”, featuring Charles Conrad (Apollo XII Mission Commander), James A. McDivitt (Gemini 4 Commander), Frank Borman (Apollo 8 Commander), Al Worden (Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot), John Glenn (Mercury Seven member) and Jim Irwin (Apollo 15 Lunar Module Pilot). Each display will be accompanied by Basic Certifications from JSA, except the Irwin, which will include an LOA from JSA.
The complete breakdown for the six offered displays are as follows. 1) James A. McDivitt signed display. A 7” x 10” colour photo pictures the astronaut in his space suit, with his name listed below. James has signed across his image in blue felt tip pen, with the signature displaying well against the white background. Double-matted to total dimensions of 10” x 16”, a Gemini 4 crest has been affixed below, with the display remaining in excellent condition, with just some light wear to the picture above the signature. A JSA sticker numbered Q40678 has been affixed, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany. 2) Frank Borman signed display. A copy of a 1968 article from the New York Times pictures the Apollo 8 team including Borman, with the pilot signing beneath in black marker. Double-matted to total dimensions of 11” x 18”, a Borman-Lovell-Anders Apollo 8 crest has been affixed below, with the display remaining in excellent condition, with just a few dinged corners. A JSA sticker numbered Q40680 has been affixed, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany. 3) Al Worden signed display. An 8” x 10” colour photo at left pictures the astronaut in his space suit, with his name listed below. Worden has signed across his image in blue felt tip pen with “To Howard with Best Wishes”, adding “Apollo 15”, with the signature displaying well against the white background. Double-matted to total dimensions of 12 ½” x 18”, both an Apollo 15 envelope and crest have been placed on the right hand side. The matte itself shows wear, including a small edge tear. A JSA sticker numbered Q40676 has been affixed, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany. 4) Charles Conrad signed display. A 4 ¼” x 6 ¼” photo of Conrad has been affixed, along with a cheque that’s been matted below. The cheque is dated from 1993, and it features a gorgeous signature in black felt tip pen. At total dimensions of 9” x 14”, the display remains in excellent condition, with just some wear to a few corners. A JSA sticker numbered Q40679 has been affixed, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany. 5) John Glenn signed display. A copy of a Boston Globe page along with a black and white photo of Glenn have both been matted, with a signature cut beneath the photo. The signature has been executed in dark fiber-tip pen, and it remains flawless. At full dimensions of 14” x 18 ½”, the display exhibits light wear, especially to corners. A JSA sticker numbered Q40677 has been affixed, with a matching Basic Certification to accompany. 6) Jim Irwin signed display. A black and white photo of the lunar module is pictured above, with an expense sheet below. Irwin has signed along the bottom of the sheet, and the signature is flawless. Double-matted to total dimensions of 12” x 16”, the display remains in beautiful condition with light wear. An LOA JSA will accompany.
