Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
An integral component of the famous “S” line with Hooley Smith and Nels Stewart, Babe Siebert would see 15 seasons of NHL action before drowned in Lake Huron prior to the 1939–40 NHL season. This sad and early departure accounts for the limited supply of signatures available from the HOFer. Thankfully, we have an attractive specimen for your consideration, along with 5 additional signatures including Canadiens coach Cecil Hart who passed away in 1940. Contained within both sides of a small lined paper cut at roughly 2 ½” x 4”, Siebert appears along one side with Hart and Cy Wentworth, while the opposite side features signatures from Rod Lorrain, Armand Mondou and Paul Haynes. All administered in pencil, the Siebert signature is somewhat light but displays well, with the Hart signature fairly bold and flawless. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
The paper itself exhibits heavy toning and light dirt staining, with rough borders along with a folded/creased corner. Siebert signatures are a rare find, especially examples with the added bonus of additionally desirable autographs. Two modern prints of Siebert will accompany the signatures.
