Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
An interesting little group of vintage Montreal Expos items, we have an uncut sheet of postcards from 1971, followed by 5 examples from the 1971 Catelli “Expos in Action” series. Next, we have a program from the inaugural 1969 season for a contest against Houston, an Expos “photo-album” from the mid-1970s and a mini Expos baseball bat. First, the uncut sheet measures roughly 18” x 22 ½”, with four even rows of 5 postcards for 20 total. A 1971 copyright from Pro Stars Publications appears at the bottom of each card, and included are Staub, Jones, Fairly, Bailey, Brand, Bocabeela, Day and others. Despite pinholes and some fairly heavy creasing, the uncut sheet remains in good condition, ideal for display. The 1971 Catelli 3-D “Expos in Action” examples all feature a particular player on front with most of their image cut out, designed to be folded over the background to give the illusion of depth. Statistics are also listed on the reverse of each, and included are Bailey, Morton, Raymond, Bateman and Ron Fairly. Exhibiting light wear with some toning, they remain in very good condition. The 1969 program is just under 7” x 10” with some handwritten notations within the interior including the line-ups. The 50-cent 62 page program remains in very good condition. The photo album is a fold-out affair at 7 ½” x 8 ½” (when folded shut) and it pictures team members in great game-action poses including Carter, Rogers, Fryman and others, and it remains in very good condition. Lastly, the mini-bat is a Louisville affair at 16” in gorgeous condition with “Montreal Expos” appearing stamped along the barrel in both French and English.
