Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
The venue of the NHL’s first American franchise, the Boston Garden opened in 1928 amid skyrocketing construction costs totaling 10 million, more than double the amount spent while erecting Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden just three years earlier. We have a single free-standing seat from the famous arena, with this example featuring a highly desirable figural panel. In solid Garden’s orange and numbered “1” along the top back slat in white, this seat originally sat at the beginning of a row, with countless patrons making their way past throughout its history. A gold-coloured plaque has been affixed to the seat listing the residence years of both the Bruins and Celtics, along with “Authenticity Guaranteed By NBG Corp”. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Most of the orange finish remains intact, with obvious loss in spots, especially along edges and on the lower sections. The figural Art Deco panel shows loss to the finish along the lower portion, with some corrosion to the surface. Decade’s worth of dust and dirt also remains along openings and grooves, with the seat surviving in its original condition admirably.
