Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
With Spalding models both the official and unofficial puck approved for NHL use throughout the 1930s and earlier, CCM Art Ross models first saw NHL use in 1942, with the smaller logo used until 1950 give or take, with the “boxed” logos then seeing use until the team emblem pucks first made their appearance in 1958. We have a pair of the first CCM Art Ross pucks that saw NHL action, in use from roughly 1942-1950. The rubberized logos both exhibit identical text, with “Adopted by National Hockey League” centered above “Art Ross”, with the puck’s patent number listed above. One example features a clean logo, with just some toning to the orange hue along with light wear to the text, while the second example features an uneven logo, with some loss to the graphics along with a slice to the material and an errant dark streak. The puck with the nicer logo also exhibits very little wear, with a clean reverse and good edges. The second example with wear to the rubberized logo exhibits a few small edge chips/gouges, with examples on the front and reverse, with the former better than the later.
