Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
A number of tantalizing vintage items are available in this lot, including rarely seen examples. We have an extremely rare letterhead from Joe Simpson Sporting Goods, an unused California Hockey League contract from the 1920s, a Western Hockey League rule book from 1932-33, 5 Ottawa Senators player supplements from 1936-37, a 1933 Allan Cup champs Moncton Hawks team photo, and a selection of 9 team photos featuring the North Battleford Beaver Bruins. We have examples for 1959-60, 1960-61 (2 different), 1961-62, 1962-63, 1964-65 and 1966-67. There is also a photo with “1963?” on the reverse, along with a copy of a photo of the 1936-37 North Battleford Beavers.
The complete breakdown for the offered items is as follows. 1)1920s Joe Simpson letterhead. Most likely a short-lived venture, as any items referring to Joe Simpson sporting goods are virtually unheard of, including this attractive business letter head. At 8 ½” x 11”, the thin paper features a large image of Simpson on the left in his Eskimos sweater, with “Joe Simpson” along the top in script. With just some light creasing and toning along with a small stain and a tiny bit of loss along the left border, the letterhead remains in very pleasing condition. 2) 1932-33 WHL Rules booklet. At 3 ½” x 6”, the diminutive number features the league’s teams listed on the cover, along with their uniform’s colour scheme. The interior pages are no longer attached to the cover, with the only other problem the heavy soiling/rusting at the staples. 3) Unused 1920s California Hockey League contract. The typical standard players contract at 3 ½” x 8 ½” when folded, expected fold lines are present along with a few other creases and surface wear, with some toning along fold lines. 4) 5 Ottawa Senators player photos. Most likely a premium included within programs, 5 Senators are featured from the club’s QSHL days, including Wilf Hoch, Tag Millar, Joffre Seguin, Tommy McIntyre and goaltender Mel Becker. Each 6” a 9” photo is on thin stock, and all 5 remain in beautiful condition, with just the odd crease or bit of corner wear. 5) 1933 Moncton Hawks team picture. At 8” x 10”, the sepia-toned picture features the full team, along with an image of the Allan Cup. Heavy toning along with staining is present, with a few large creases along with a cut upper left corner. 6) 8 North Battleford Beaver Bruins team-photos. The 1959-60, 1960-61 (smaller version), “1963?” and 1964-65 examples are roughly 5” x 7”, with the 1959-60 and 1964-65 examples laminated along with the players listed. The photos from 1960-61 (larger example), 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1966-67 have also been laminated with the players listed below, with these examples all roughly 8” x 10”. Expected handling wear is present on the Beaver Bruins photos, with the 1959-60 example creased with cut/torn corners. 7) Boom Boom Geoffrion signed Blueline photo. At roughly 8 ¾” x 11”, the premium has been signed along the bottom left in ballpoint, with just some light fading to the signature. Framed to total dimensions of 12” x 15”, the photo exhibits toning, spotting and edge wear, with the top border trimmed.
