Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
From his sixth of eleven seasons in hockey’s holy land, we have a Montreal Canadiens jersey that was worn by history’s only three-time Conn Smythe winner, Patrick Roy. Worn in the 1991 Playoffs, the jersey also saw action in the 1991-92 skills competition, and it’s been photo-matched! The proper Maska Ultrafil tagging remains attached to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM patches on the back bottom hem. Styled with hockey’s most famous logo, the jersey has been accented with attractive dual-colour twill numbers on the sleeves and verso. The important NHL 75th anniversary patch sits affixed just above the right chest.
Originally acquired from a family member of Ray Bourque, the jersey has been photo-matched to the small black mark at the top right of the team crest, and also to the particular placement of the team crest and numbers on the sleeves and back. The jersey is also photo-matched to a 1991 Kellogg's Score hockey card that shows the previously mentioned black mark and placement of team crest, and to a July 1991 Pro Set Gazette magazine and 1990-91 Game #7 DVD - where you can faintly see the black mark along with the placement of the team crest. Finally, the jersey shows up once more at the 1991-92 NHL All-Star Skills competition, and it’s matched to the same team crest and number placement. A letter of provenance will be included.
Visible game-wear on the important jersey is light, with just a few dark marks present over the left breast, and below and above the striping band on the left sleeve. There is also some pilling to the material, beneath the fight strap and inside each cuff. The Montreal at Boston game #7 DVD, 1991-92 skills competition DVD, 1991 Kellogg's hockey card and 1991 Pro Set magazine as well as the printed screen captures from the skills DVD will all be included.
