Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The current high bid for the set, $1,250.00, is greater than the aggregate total of the bids on the sublots that comprise this set, $1,122.00 (this lot is currently winning)
Extremely difficult to locate are cards issued by Crescent Ice Cream of Winnipeg and depicting members of the Selkirk Fishermen, with this baker's dozen considered a set, minus the #6-Cecil Browne card, short-printed to reduce the number of prizes (bricks of ice cream) awarded. Although slabbed “1924” by PSA, these examples are actually from the first year of the two-season promotion which began in 1923-24. There is a mix of black and white and sepia tone cards, while another variation is the absence of “No.” in front of numbers 5 and 8 (on the card backs). The grading lowdown is as follows. Leading at EX-MT 6 is 11-Benard, followed by EX 5s of 12-Speirs (sepia) and 14-Borland. At VG-EX+ 4.5 are 4-Bowman and 5-Roberts (sepia), while four cards are VG-EX 4s; 1-Brandow, 9-Comfort, 10-O’Meara (sepia) and 13-Meurer. Completing are VG 3 examples of 2-Hughes and 8-Selkirks Team, 3-Baril at GOOD+ 2.5 and 7-Gillis at PR 1. At the end of the auction, the set will be sold to the highest aggregate bidding, whether that is the sum of the individual lots or the highest bid for the complete set. Our website will automatically reflect whichever portion has received the highest bidding total. Outlandishly intriguing treasures from western Canada to enhance a pre-war shrine!
