Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
With both the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins arriving in the NHL during the first expansion of 1967, each of these signed sticks are noteworthy due to being early examples for each club. We have a stick used by Ed Van Impe and signed by the 1970-71 Flyers, along with a stick most likely used by a Penguin, and signed by Pittsburgh in 1968-69. The Van Impe stick is a Victoriaville Pro model stamped “Van Impe” on the upper shaft along with handwritten “2”, and it retain’s its original tape on the blade and handle/knob. The stick shows moderate use, with wear to the bottom of the blade along with a few marks on the lower shaft. 17 have signed in ballpoint on one side of the shaft including Van Impe, Clarke, Lacroix, Lesuk, Nolet, Ashbee, Hillman, Peters, Morrison, Watson, Heiskala, Favell, Stasiuk and others. The signatures have faded slightly, and the stick has been covered with a protective layer of varnish/shellac. The second stick is also a Victoriaville Pro example, with vintage tape on the blade from the same era as the scripted signatures. 19 have signed on one side of the shaft in ballpoint including Schinkel, McCreary, Fonteyne, Boyer, Woytowich, Ingarfield, Price, Dea, Boivin, McCallum, Barrie, Arbour, Dillabough, Binkley and others. The signatures present well, with the stick being covered by a protective layer of varnish/shellac.
