Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
From the 2008 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame induction of the gold medal winning 1948 RCAF Flyers, we have the actual blazer inducted member Julius “Pete” Leichnitz wore, along with an IIHF 60th anniversary medal in its original case. The solid navy blazer is a 42 long and was made by Moore with a cloth patch on the inner pocket, and it retains its buttons on the lower front and sleeves. With just light wear to note, a “Canada” patch sits over the left breast with a maple leaf and the Olympic rings. The medal is 2 ¾” in diameter, with the generic player’s silhouette of the IIHF logo on the front, and “RCAF Flyers Canada 6th (should be 60th) Anniversary Olympic Ice Hockey Gold 1948 St. Moritz Switzerland” engraved on the reverse.
The medal remains in beautiful condition, with just some isolated spotting on the front, and within a few of the engraved letters on the reverse. The original accompanying box is in near perfect condition and is roughly 4 ¾” x 4 ¾” x 1 ¼”, and it features the IIHF logo in gold on the inside lid. Also included we have a navy tie made by Guardsman for the event also worn by Leichnitz, designed with mini maple leafs and Olympic rings throughout. Lastly, we have the white dress shirt from the ensemble that was made by Sears. An LOA from the Leichnitz family will be included.
