Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Historic mementos recalling the RCAF Flyer’s triumphant trip to St. Moritz in 1948 to represent Canada at the Olympic Games, we have an Olympic program, a pre-Olympic hockey program, a Cunard passenger list along with a Cunard programme of events. The Olympic program is 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” and it features a schedule of events along with stats up until that point in the games, with Canada topping the standings at 5-0. The pre-Olympic program is for a hockey match between the RCAF and Streatham on Jan 16th 1948 in London. At just over 7” x 9 ½”, the English program features the game’s line-ups along with interesting period advertisements. An LOA from the Leichnitz family will be included.
The Cunard items are for the RMS Queen Elizabeth, the ship the Canadians took to Europe tourist class, while the Americans traveled to the games first class. The passenger list is roughly 5 ¼” x 8”, and it lists all “Tourist Class” passengers along with the ship’s officers. The Cunard schedule is a one-page fold-over affair at 4 ½” x 6” (when folded), listing the ships activities for Jan 11th 1948 which includes mass, orchestral selections, keno and horse racing. All items show wear commensurate with their age and former use, which includes toning and surface/corner wear, along with the odd crease or light stain. The Cunard daily programme has clear tape on the inside, while the Cunard passenger list has residue left from clear tape. The Streatham hockey program is on thin stock, and it exhibits a vertical fold line along with areas of creasing and light water damage.
