Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Another choice offering directly from the family of Julius “Pete” Leichnitz, we have a gorgeous vintage Elgin watch that was presented to Mr. Leichnitz by the City of Ottawa for being a member of the Ottawa RCAF Flyers hockey team that won gold at the Winter Olympic Games in 1948. An Elgin “DeLuxe” model, the watch features a square dial with inserted second-hand window. The back casing is stamped “10K Gold Filled” along with an inscription that states in full, “Presented to Pete Leichnitz RCAF Flyers Olympic Hockey Champions by The City of Ottawa May 12 1948”, along with “Craftex Made in Canada G.F. Top, S.S. back" on the inside band. An LOA from the Leichnitz family will be included.
The watch with its original band remains in beautiful condition, with just surface wear from regular use, along with the odd scratch, ding or scuff. The front glass displays well, with just a few scratches/marks present. We should also add that the watch has been cleaned and does work, but we’re not sure how accurate of time it’s currently able to keep.
