A magnificent and tantalizing assembly of encapsulated treasures are these appropriately-named "Ice Kings", with the men who wrote some of hockey's fascinating pre-war era history putting up numbers at PSA which earn them "king" bragging rights as the current finest V357 set on the PSA Set Registry. Numbers? They are staggering, with 33 of the 72 examples earning NM-MT 8 recognition. A total of 31 cards are second-to-none on the PSA Population Report, with three of them being Pop 1s. The Pop-1-with-none-higher trio is led by the set's overall condition leader; the rookie card of Hall-of-Famer Mervyn "Red" Dutton, slabbed NM-MT+ 8.5, one of just 21 Ice Kings cards in the history of PSA, (over 2500 total submissions), to ever be graded higher than 8. Other Pop 1 chart-toppers are #27-Marty Barry RC at NM-MT 8 and 49-Ken Doraty RC at NM+ 7.5. As for the aforementioned 8s, (24) of them have none higher on their respective lines of the PSA chart, including the set's star of stars, Howie Morenz, a Pop 6. King Clancy is a Pop 4 NM-MT 8, while the rookie card of HOFer Dit Clapper, (card #1), is a Pop 3. Notables also meriting NM-MT 8 status, (with none higher), are 31-Hooley Smith, 42-Sylvio Mantha, 47-Alex Levinsky RC and 55-Hap Emms RC. Meanwhile, legends at NM-MT 8 include 10-Hap Day, 12-Nels Stewart RC, 16-Red Horner RC and 30-Bill Cook, while a contingent of (22) NM 7 cards include the thought-provoking images of 3-Aurele Joliat, 8-Babe Siebert RC, 11-Roy Worters RC, 22-Ace Bailey RC, 40-Joe Primeau RC and 66-Bun Cook RC, the latter a Pop 7 with none higher. The exhausting, years-in-the-making accomplishment has a remarkable set rating, as well as a GPA with top pop bonuses, of 7.84, placing it third on the All-Time Finest list among such ensembles. Scoring opportunities galore for serious hobbyists here, with each individual encapsulated beauty a prize in itself. Good luck with these sensational, first-rate pre-war collectibles. At the end of the auction, the set will be sold to the highest aggregate bidding, whether that is the sum of the individual lots or the highest bid for the complete set.
