Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
While the supply never seems to meet the demand for vintage Bleu Blanc Rouge items, this lot will help pacify those who just can’t get enough of the famous Montreal Canadiens. Three framed newsprint team photos are here for your consideration, with examples from 1929-30, 1933-34 and 1938-39. Immortal Habs are pictured throughout the three photos, with Morenz, Joliat, Hainsworth, Mantha, Siebert, Blake, Chabot and others. The 1929-30 and 1938-39 examples were issued by La Presse and are colourized, while the 1933-34 newsprint photo is black and white. All three have been set into dark wooden frames.
The 1929-30 La Presse photo shows toning, with the odd crease or wrinkle present along with a center fold line. Framed to total dimensions of just under 19 ¾” x 24 ½”, the photo remains in excellent condition with just a few blemishes to the frame. The 1933-34 photo exhibits toning and heavy foxing along the left hand side as well as a few other spots, with small areas of paper loss in all four corners along with over Joliats name. There is also a fairly large crease/tear along the right side near the middle. Framed to total dimensions of roughly 17 ½” x 24 ¼”, the frame exhibits a few scuffs and marks as well, especially on the left hand side. Lastly, the 1938-39 La Presse photo shows toning as well as a number of unobtrusive crease lines along with a vertical fold line. Framed to total dimensions of roughly 17 ¾” x 24 ¼”, the display remains in excellent condition.
