Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Named “The upset of the Decade” by Ring magazine, the first bout between Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey in 1926 witnessed the largest paying crowd for a boxing match up until that point, with over 120,000 boxing fans gladly shilling out their hard earned cash. This lot features a modern print of the contest, matted with signed cards and a reproduction ticket stub. The 9 ¾” x 12 ¾” photo shows both fighters in action as the crowd looks on. The signatures each appear on unlined cards, centered by a $22.00 reproduction ticket stub. The Dempsey is fashioned in ballpoint with “Good Luck”, while the Tunney example has been executed in fiber-tip marker. Both signatures along with the photo show no issues, with all pieces matted to final dimensions of 17 ¾” x 17 ¾”. An LOA from JSA will accompany.
