Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
What an amazing opportunity to commemorate Wayne Gretzky’s record-shattering 92-goal season! This gorgeous blue mesh Sandow Edmonton Oilers jersey, from the second half of the 1981-82 season, is an original and vintage uniform supplied by the Oilers. The shirt is missing the neck tagging and has the Sandow logo screened onto the outer tail. All cresting, numbering and lettering are correct, vintage and original to the jersey. These uniforms were not available to the public. The jersey is identical in every way to the uniforms Wayne wore during the season he eclipsed Phil Esposito’s previous record of 76 goals, but it does not have the commemorative International Year of the Disabled Persons 1981 patch affixed. A vintage and original patch accompanies the shirt. This style of jersey was not available to the public and produced by the team after a request from a person of significant standing in the hockey community, as detailed in the accompanying detailed letter of authenticity from Brad Foote of Icehouse, which outlines its provenance.
