Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Awarded annually by the "Club Sportif Sherbrooke" (Sherbrooke Sports Club) during the war years and slightly later, we have a perpetual hockey trophy from 1942, presented to six different players from 1942 to 1950 including a teenage Gerry Plamondon in 1942 (Plamondon would see action with the Montreal Canadiens in parts of five seasons). At approx 18” in height and featuring a 14” slender handled trophy bowl mounted to a tiered black wooden base, “Trophee Club Sportif Sherbrooke Hockey” and “1942” is largely engraved, with six small shield-shaped plaques added to the base, with each listing the awarded player and year, with examples for 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946 and 1950. The trophy is just slightly bent forward on the base, and sports tarnishing throughout, with the original finial on the lid broken away. The lid itself is attached to the trophy, and we are not sure if this would have originally been loose. The base exhibits surface wear including chips, scratches, marks and small holes (these appear to have been added for additional plaques, or possibly exist from previously removed plaques).
