Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
"The Trail of the Stanley Cup" is a definite prerequisite to any important hockey library. Author Charles Coleman's complete history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1967 is contained within these three books. Only 1,000 copies of the special leather-bound editions of the first and second volumes were produced and presented to important hockey figures, while the third was limited to 1,500 copies. We have a three volume set, with each the desirable leather-bound editions, with the first two volumes originally presented to sports journalist and Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Jack Matheson, with each numbered “741” (volume one also has an NHL Matheson bookplate). The third volume is numbered “880”, with volumes one and two having plastic dust jackets and their original attractive black slip covers with gilded images of the Stanley Cup.
All three volumes display beautifully with light handling wear. The dust jacket for volume one is torn and split in spots, while the slip cases for volume one and two both show light wear with no separations to the seams, which is usually encountered. This set is ready to be the centerpiece to any advanced hockey collection.
