Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The first of four Fall Classic matchups between New York and Milwaukee, the 1957 World Series would see the Hank Aaron led Braves taking on Mickey Mantle and the Bronx Bombers. Going the full distance, the seventh and final game saw New York attempt to mount a comeback after being down five runs in the ninth. With the bases loaded and the tying run on deck, Mathews made the final out with a ground ball to third off Moose Skowron. It would be Milwaukee’s only Championship. In this lot we have a pair of programs from the ’57 Series, including examples issued for both Yankee Stadium and County Stadium.
The condition for the offered World Series programs is as follows. 1) 1957 program issued for County Stadium (8 ½” x 11”), unscored. The cover exhibits toning along with unobtrusive creases on the lower left and top right. Firmly attached, the interior remains clean with the creasing from the cover’s bottom left continuing through the program. 2) 1957 program issued for Yankee Stadium (8 ¾” x 12”), partially scored. With just a small amount of spine wear along with a tiny corner bend in the lower right corner, the program remains in high grade.
